I came to California 10 years ago from Hawaii, where I taught 5th and 6th grade at Lanikai Elementary School on Oahu.  At M.U.S., I taught 6th grade for a year and Kindergarten for the past nine years. The best part about teaching Kindergarten is playing with the kids and hearing all their funny stories and amazing ideas. I love teaching kids to read.  It’s that great time in life when all the mysterious symbols that you are surrounded by become understandable.  I think the kids feel like adventurers and archaeologists in Kindergarten because they are unlocking the secret adult written codes!  Their enthusiasm for learning is infectious and uplifting.  Whatever the grade level, the students always make coming to work fun.

My undergraduate degree in Public Relations is from Loyola University in Maryland.  I went to the University of Hawaii – Manoa to get my teaching degree in Elementary Education and Special Education.  A big interest away from teaching is the ocean.  At one point, I was taking university classes in biology and oceanography, but decided that I liked talking to people more than fish, algae and corals and so I switched into education coursework.  I have SCUBA dived in Hawaii, Florida, Australia and the Bahamas and live near the beach in Carpinteria with my husband Seth and my daughter Ellie, who was born in October 2015.  We like to dance to silly music in the living room, play on the beach, take walks to the seal sanctuary and sometimes bravely swim in the cold Pacific Ocean at the peak of summer heat.  M.U.S. is an incredible public school that really cares about every child!  I am so happy to be teaching here!
