Welcome to 4th, 5th, and 6th grade Spanish!

I am so happy and lucky to be a part of the Montecito Union School staff. I am teaching Spanish in grades 4-6th and also working with students throughout all grade levels assisting them with their language development as an English Language Support Teacher.

I received my teaching credential and my Masters in Education in 2006 from UC Santa Barbara. I have worked at Harding University Partnership School as a Reading specialist, a Spanish teacher for the entire school, and as a first grade teacher in my 8 years there.  I also taught first grade at Isla Vista Elementary.  I taught Spanish at Santa Barbara City College for 11 years. I took a break from teaching full time in November 2014 when my daughter was born. However, I continued learning throughout my 18 month break on best practices on how to teach reading and writing.

I am originally from Los Angeles and moved to Santa Barbara to pursue a college education in 1999. My family is from El Salvador and Spanish was my first language so I knew how important it was to embrace my culture and language. One of my passions is learning more about the linguistic history of the Spanish language. I ended up going back to school in 2009 to get my Masters in Spanish because I enjoyed it so much.

My big hope as a Spanish teacher at Montecito Union is to be able to pique their interest about Spanish speaking countries, and give them the tools to communicate in Spanish.
