MUS Green Team ACTIONS that we are proud of for 2010-2011
-Green Team is a PTA-funded program and a Superintendent-appointed committee.
-Created “Five Year Sustainability Plan” with Superintendent Tammy Murphy.
-Purchased with (PTA funds) and distributed water bottles to all students/staff.
-Hosted a “Hydration Station” at Montecito Beautification Day.
-Implemented the “Cool the Earth” program on campus this school year; a program focused on empowering kids to take an active role in caring for our environment.
-Arranged for waste sorting and waste diversion at most PTA events this year. Achieved an overall diversion rate of 80%.
-Performed “waste can audit” of all classrooms on campus.
-Organized and ran school-wide Earth Day celebration week in April by collaborating with school committees, teachers and staff and community organizations.
-Worked with administration and teaching staff to promote environmental education including the all-school environmental science fair held on our Earth Day.
-Worked to provide environmental education and communication for parents and families with film screenings on environmental topics.
-Facilitated International Walk to School Day in October, Walk and Roll Day on Earth Day event and Walk and Roll Day in May.
-At Carnival, ran an educational waste sorting game booth, provided a “Hydration Station”, sold reusable water bottles, and aided in composting and waste sorting of recyclables.
-Implemented a pilot of the Food Scraps Program with the County of Santa Barbara.
-A Green Team member funded the first water bottle filling station on campus. We are now part of CEC’s “Rethink the Drink” program that is being implemented at local schools.
-Started a communication hub for Green Team members in order to communicate more effectively and efficiently with each other online.
